One of the best things we've done this summer is to put out bird seed. Fox sparrows can almost always be seen hopping through our grass having a snack. Occasionally, there have been large groups of black-billed magpies, such as the one in this picture. They are bold and impressive birds. I'm often now planting myself on the floor where I can gaze out through the glass and watch all who come to eat.

Then there was this dragonfly who lived with us for a night until he passed away. Wolfgang did manage to get him to eat and fly again, but only for the short term.

I'll spare you the pictures of Bethany right before her E.R. visit. An obliging mosquito bit her near the eye and caused it to swell up so badly that I took her in. Poor kiddo. She's fine now but it was rather terrible and impressive to see what one stupid bug could do.
Then, Psalm got stung by a wasp. In the house!
Let's hear it for winter when all the bugs are...wherever they are. Frozen bug limbo.
