My free and fun blog

I'm breathing a sigh of relief that, after a foray into the world of domain names, web hosting, CSS script (which I'm pretty sure didn't exist back when I learned HTML programming), and all the drama, I have returned like the prodigal that I am into the warm embrace of Blogger, my original blog host. What a relief! My patience came to its end when my new blog up and disappeared last week. I'm fairly certain this was a bug between Wordpress and GoDaddy working together that caused this to happen but, as my content's HTML was intact, I imported my old Blogger blog, copied the HTML from the new blog, and moved all of it into this one. I'M NOT MOVING AGAIN!!

I'm sure I could have figured out how to fix this situation. I was sorry to leave my online homeschooling scrapbook behind as well, as I found the most beautiful template for it (I copied the HTML from that one also and incorporated it into this one). But blogging just wasn't fun anymore. Wordpress is so long-winded compared to Blogger and I don't have a lot of extra time to spend coaxing it into submission so I can write a stinkin' blog. The steps here are efficient and straightforward.

At this point, I still need to label the new posts with their tags so they can be found more easily within the blog. I spent about a moment pondering whether to keep and point "alaskafamilyblog.com" to this address but, come December when it's time to renew it, I really won't want to spend the money on my domain names. Time to send out yet another email announcement about a new blog address. Also, I am very saddened to lose the wonderful comments that had been left at the other blog.

Thanks for visiting!

  1. Hey Min- thanks for sharing all the "back door" frustration with the blog. I've been trying to figure out whether to move to WP or Blogger, and I guess the sudden disappearance of your blog made the choice for me! Glad you are back! :)

  2. Again, I'm sorry to hear that your experience with WordPress was so negative. I've had nothing but great experiences with it so far which leads me to believe that it was your hosting that was the problem. I've also had a two day stretch where my blog up and died, but that was the hosting, not WordPress itself.

That said, it's good to see you back, blogging, and happy about blogging again, even if you don't have the cool themes anymore.

  3. Mindy, the more I learn about you the more I want to know! I'm sorry that we are (most likely!) moving soon...

  4. Thank you all for your kind comments. :) I'm bummed it couldn't work out with Wordpress...it was easier to exercise creative freedom with it but I had issues with both blogs that were not within my time budget to resolve. I think that a combination of Wordpress with Godaddy was to blame. Either way, no regrets...I love Blogger and have had such a pristine experience. I love not having to figure out just the right plugin to post a video and photo. I always had terrible issues with posting photos in Wordpress.
